Field Technician (Brackenfell – Cape Town)

Job Summary:

We seeking an experienced UPS & Inverter Technician to join our dynamic technical team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for in-house and onsite maintenance, testing, repairs, and commissioning of UPS and inverter systems, as well as assisting with new system installations across our client base.

This role requires strong technical knowledge, attention to detail, and the ability to work both independently and within a team environment.

Key Responsibilities:

Maintenance & Services

  • Perform preventative maintenance inspections (PMIs) on UPS and inverter systems.
  • Conduct thermal imaging on electrical installations (as required in our PMI scope).
  • Diagnose and repair UPS, inverter, and battery backup systems.
  • Test battery strings, inverter outputs, runtime, load transfer functions, AVR functionality, and supply quality.

Repairs & Testing

  • Troubleshoot electrical and electronic faults on single- and three-phase systems.
  • Complete internal testing, load bank testing, and prepare service reports.
  • Ensure all repairs and testing meet Cooper Power standards and manufacturer specifications.

Installations

  • Assist with the installation and commissioning of UPS systems, inverters (backup, hybrid & grid-tied), battery banks, and related accessories.
  • Complete DC reticulation and assist with rack, cabinet, and wiring preparation.

SLA & Compliance Requirements

  • The technician will be expected to adhere to Cooper Power’s national SLA and maintenance standards, including:
  • Completing all PMI checklists accurately and timeously.
  • Ensuring system conditions are compliant (temperature, ventilation, AVR requirements, cabling sizes, battery health, etc.)
  • Reporting non-compliance findings immediately to management and clients.
  • Maintaining proper housekeeping at client premises and ensuring safe working procedures.
  • Ensuring all completed work is signed off, photographed, and submitted according to SLA protocols.

Team & Communication

  • Work closely with our Service Manager, technical team, and warehouse division.
  • Maintain clear communication with clients onsite.
  • Represent Cooper Power professionally at all times.

Job Requirements:

  • At least 3-5 years relevant technical experience
  • Fundamentals of DC- and AC power
  • Renewable systems knowledge
  • Technical knowledge about products
  • Computer literate
  • Proficient in MS Office packages
  • High level of system knowledge and understanding for effective support and maintenance functions
  • Fluent in English; Afrikaans beneficial
